East Aurora Overnight at The Roycroft Inn

Western New York is lucky to have East Aurora.  It's a classic small town with loads of charm and great restaurants.  East Aurora is lucky to have The Roycroft Inn, the jewel in it's crown!

To celebrate our 9 year anniversary, Matt and I decided to spend the night away from the boys!  We didn't have to think too hard about where to go of course, East Aurora's famous Roycroft Inn!!  We've stayed there before, however, I was pregnant with Dylan the first time and not feeling... myself. lol!  But Matt LOOOVED staying at the Roycroft and we were so excited to go back to celebrate year #9!!! ☺  The Roycroft is so charming: the 1800 structure and woodwork, live music... no toddlers, haha!!
A Mom Guilt Free Night
I have to say I struggle with "mom guilt" on a daily basis.  Whether it's being too strict, or too lenient, spending quality time with each boy, letting them play outside enough, cooking dinner instead of playing with them, the list goes on.  However, I NEVER feel mom guilt for leaving them to spend time with my husband.  I know that my relationship with Matt comes first- and one of the best things I can give my children is stable parent figures.  So, as much as we can, Matt and I always try to make time for each other without the boys... because these days, in our household, it is almost impossible to even have a conversation with our two little humans crawling around and on us! Lol!  I know not everyone is as lucky as us to have grandparents around (who are willing, sometimes begging to watch our kids)... but I have friends who will swap date nights/weekends with their friends, or pay their babysitter to stay the night to make overnights happen- and it is SO WORTH IT! ☺

Elm Street Bakery

We headed straight to Elm Street Bakery for dinner.  I love eating at Elm Street because I feel like almost everything on the menu I couldn't make myself.  I hate ordering something at a restaurant and thinking to myself, I could totally make this at home!
Where to sit: Whenever we eat at Elm Street we always pick the bar.  I really enjoy sitting at a bar when we are on a date because it's something we could never do if we brought our kids to eat with us.  We especially like Elm Street's bar because you sit across from the most beautiful brick oven and it's fun watching the chefs make pizzas.
What to eat:  Basically anything on the menu is going to be amazing.  Matt and I shared beat & orange salad, steamed mussels in a green curry and apple cake for dessert.  But we also LOVE their cheese plate and you can't go wrong with their wood-fired pizzas.  I have to say, our meal was delicious and it was sooo nice to enjoy a long meal together.
Elm Street Bakery is probably our favorite restaurant in all of Western New York- it is always a special treat to eat there!

Roycroft Inn
When we came back to the Roycroft, there was live music playing: Alison Pipitone, and the whole room was full, so it was super fun!  We've seen a lot of this world and as we sat in the lounge watching the awesome band that was playing (and having a local craft beer), I couldn't help but think we were in a Swiss bar. The styling and decoration in there is so unique, oozing with European atmosphere. It was all worth it for that (the beer and music didn't hurt; gotta love not having to even leave the building you are sleeping in to have a good time).  Everyone seemed to be in a really good mood (despite HORRIBLE weather outside) and we really enjoyed chatting with some of the locals!

The rooms are great too! They are super unique, and huge! We've stayed in two different rooms now, and they are so cool. This one had 4 separate rooms and a big bathroom. They are decorated as period pieces, so they have an early 1900s feel... lots of wood... and the biggest and best bathtub we've experienced!  I also LOVE that they offer little Perrier water bottles because I am OBSESSED with sparkling water. ☺
Brunch at The Roycroft Inn: Breakfast isn't included but it is INCREDIBLE, I'm not kidding, we should really go back just for that!  Matt ordered their quiche with sausage, mushrooms and cheese.  I ordered a salmon, spinach, goat cheese omelette the goat cheese melted in your mouth.  It was so nice to  have a leisurely breakfast and sip our coffee slow.
I would definitely recommend East Aurora as a great "vacation" spot for anyone!  It is such a charming small town!  We joke that East Aurora reminds us of Stars Hallow from "Gilmore Girls", and the Roycroft is the "Dragon Fly Inn" from the show.  Anyone know what I'm talking about?  ☺  East Aurora is such a gem!!  You won't be disappointed if you make it your next destination for a romantic getaway!
