The Westin Buffalo: Couples' Staycation Overnight
If you are in the same season of life as us, you would agree that it is REALLY hard to have meaningful conversations and spend quality time with your spouse and friends. I see my friends a lot- at the gym, birthday parties, the park, playdates... however with our kids around, it is almost impossible to even get in a two minute conversation in!
Matt and I were fortunate to have 5 years together before we had our boys. I remember those days now and laugh!! A few times a week, we would go out with our friends and be gone for hours without worrying about a babysitter on the clock. Every year we would plan a trip with our friends who also didn't have children... whether it was a cruise, renting a summer house on the beach, or going camping together. Boy have things changed now!! ;-)
I know everyone is busy now and it is a lot of work to leave our kids and coordinate someone to watch them and do everything. It would be pretty much impossible for us to plan an adults only cruise or rent a beach house for the week without our kids! We decided to do the next best thing... a staycation!!! We invited a bunch of our friends from our church, Church on Tap, to enjoy a kid free overnight right in our very own town!
It was perfect.
Grandparents pitched in, we would be apart from our kids for less than 24 hours, it only took 20 minutes to get there, and all of our friends were there!
The Westin Buffalo
We teamed up with The Westin Buffalo (and their partner restaurant, Patina 250) for our overnight and we couldn't have picked a better venue for the night! We've stayed at Westins and their affiliate hotels in the past and one thing I've always appreciated was their personal approach to each guest and attention to detail which far exceeds other hotels we've stayed at. Whenever we've selected a Westin, we've always felt so relaxed because we know they've "got it covered". Also, The Westin Buffalo is GORGEOUS!! In fact, when my younger sister got married last November, we even took some wedding photos in their beautiful lobby (see here). The whole atmosphere feels like something you would see in New York City and I LOVE that about it... especially for a night without our kids! :)
If fact, we loved our meals so much that we returned in the morning for breakfast! I ordered the avocado toast and it was delicious! I order that meal a lot when we're out, but this was above and beyond anywhere else I've ever tried it... seriously! The flavors only got better with every bite!
I really can't say enough good things about our experience with the Westin Buffalo, or the entire Westin brand in general. Beyond the gorgeous accommodations, the attention to detail and friendly staff who really value the importance of making your stay stand out means so much to us and only makes us want to come back.... Matt's already asking when I will plan our next adults only overnight!
PS: Did you know Matt is number 1 in Buffalo on TripAdvisor!? I just read his review of the Westin Buffalo and told him that he should be the one writing my blog for me! ;-) You can see his TripAdvisor review here.

Our room was PERFECT!!! Spacious, comfy & big bed, lounge type area with a couch, a big TV with such high definition that you felt like you were there... it had everything we needed and more. Most of all, we loved all the extra details that you don't normally find at other hotels! A little bottle of lavender essential oil next to your bed to help you sleep better, outlets on the nightstand for your phone, a water & coffee station for the morning, and my favorite part... every room equipped with an Amazon Echo! We don't have one at home but we had fun asking questions and playing some of our favorite Pandora stations while we were getting ready!! By far the best part, was their new robot butler! Yes, you read that right, they have a ROBOT who will deliver to your room any items you forgot to bring for your stay. Matt had to call for it to bring us some dental floss at 3:30am, LOL! We were fascinated with the whole process of having a robot deliver us stuff and Matt, of course, followed it as it turned corners down the hall and somehow managed to get on the elevator without pressing any buttons. You'd think after 44 countries we've visited and hundreds of hotels, that we would have stayed somewhere with a robot, but this was our first one!!!! It was so cool to experience!

Patina 250
We started the night at Patina 250, which is connected to The Westin Buffalo. I've always heard amazing things about the food and we were so excited to try it! They have a fantastic lounge& bar area right when you walk in from the hotel and they were gracious enough to reserve the area for our friends to hang out for the night! We shared a bunch of appetizers and everyone's dinners looked so yummy! Matt ordered the lamb and said it literally melted in his mouth! Their staff was so attentive to our big group and everything was seamless!PS: Did you know Matt is number 1 in Buffalo on TripAdvisor!? Lindsay!! We are sooo happy you guys could join us! What a fun night making memories and having a fabulous night out!!! ❤️😘😘😘
ReplyDeleteAll I can say is: Robot butler??? :) Even if I hadn't forgotten my floss, I probably would have pretended to anyway just to see that robot come up to my room. That is awesome!
ReplyDeleteLOL! Right!!??? It was soooo fun to have him visit... and the only time I wished my boys were with us because they would have LOVED to see a robot come to the door!! Super cool!
DeleteStay cations are great, and I love that you made it a friends trip too. It's so true that it's hard to maintain the same level of intimacy with friends that you had earlier. What a good idea to revive that energy and get everyone together !
ReplyDeleteOh it was fantastic!! I think in this season of life we need to get a little creative to keep our sanity!!!!! So glad we did this and the Westin was the perfect place for it!!!!
DeleteWow wow wow! This Westin looks stunning! would love to stay here one day.
ReplyDeleteYes! You really should! Everything was top notch!!!
DeleteOh that's nice to have a friends gathering like old times, before the kids arrived. I haven't gotten to that stage yet, but a few of my friends have kids of their own and they always bring them along.
ReplyDeleteBut honestly, that hotel sounds amazing! The robot butler is something I've never even dreamed of - I'd be fascinated too!
Yes! The robot butler was so unique and impressive... it really stood out to us and sets the hotel a part from other hotels we've stayed at!
DeleteI love Westins. What a great idea for a little getaway - sometimes that’s all you need is to drive just 20 minutes from home. You can make a trip out of anything!
ReplyDeleteExactly!! It was perfect and really DID feel like vacation even though we were practically right in our own backyard!!!
