Best New York City Accommodations at the Newly Renovated New York Marriott Marquis
I first learned about New York Marriott Marquis back in September 2020, almost an entire year ago, when I began corresponding with the Director of Sales there. I learned that the hotel was undergoing a $140 million renovation. What a huge undertaking! It was so amazing to us that they remained open the entire time throughout this project and we were especially excited to hear that the renovations were completed this summer! And wow, now that we’ve seen it ourselves, we are just SO impressed by everything! The hotel has such a light and airy feel throughout- I just love the modern, fresh, clean cut, look!
In this post, I’m going to share why New York Marriott Marquis was such a great hotel for our young family (or ANYONE) while exploring New York City!
Location Location Location
We always say it: picking a hotel in a good location is ALWAYS worth it! Who wants to walk for miles to get to from your hotel to the heart of a city, especially with little kids? New York Marriott Marquis is located right on Broadway in Times Square; you couldn’t be closer to all the action! We loved just stepping out of the hotel and seeing all the lights and activity of Times Square! The kids were especially excited to see all the dressed up characters right there- Pichachu, Spider Man, Mickey Mouse- just footsteps from leaving our hotel; the kids were ecstatic! The Disney and M&M store were a minutes walk from our hotel and a few other favorite stores (FAO Shwartz, Nintendo, American Girl Doll Store, and Lego Store) were all only a 10-15 minute walk. It was perfect for our kids and they were very excited to shop all around midtown!!
Room with a View
Our second favorite criteria when choosing a hotel, is picking a room with a view!!! We find that traveling with kids has forced us to stay in our hotel room a little more than we used to when traveling by ourselves. Our kids sleep longer than us and it definitely takes us longer to get everyone ready in the morning. We love being able to look out at the city and the large wall to wall windows in our room were a great way to still feel a part of the city and not “stuck” in our room with sleeping kids.
Newly Renovated Rooms
Who doesn’t love a brand spanking new hotel room!? We loved our rooms! Yes, that’s a plural, “rooms”. Instead of booking a suite, we got two adjoining rooms: one room with a single king sized bed and the other room with two queen beds. It was the perfect scenario because the boys were excited about having their own big beds to sleep in and Matt and I loved that the kids had their own bathroom. 😜 Both rooms were GORGEOUS with new carpet, big, comfy, leather couches, spacious bathrooms with glass sliding door walk- in showers complete with shower gel, shampoo, and conditioner dispensers on the wall. We loved our enormous entrance hallway with a full closet as well. We actually put Charlie to sleep in her little tent in the front entrance way because it was separate from our main bedroom and we could keep it dark for her while we stayed up to watch a movie after she went to sleep. Our room set up was great and it was just so nice to have that much space for our family of five!! We definitely recommend booking adjoining rooms for families!
Hotel Features
I said it before, but I’ll say it again- New York Marriott Marquis just finished it’s $140 million renovation and it’s amaaaazing!! Exploring the hotel, we noticed the beautiful bright lobby, a polished new gym with windows overlooking Times Square, a state of the art elevator system, and the brand new restaurant, Revel & Rye, on the 8th floor. Even if you aren’t staying at the hotel, you HAVE to check out this restaurant (open September 2)! The view of Times Square, for one, is not something you get anywhere else I know of and you can enjoy a nice meal while your kids are entertained watching all the people walking below. So fun! We loved everything about the look of the restaurant and can’t wait to come back, hopefully in the fall, to try it!
If you are looking for something quick for breakfast, the hotel gift shop has the perfect little cafe complete with Starbucks coffee, donuts for the kids, and amazing egg sandwiches & wraps or you can order the avocado toast, like we did! There was definitely something for everyone at the gift shop cafe!
We highly recommend New York Marriott Marquis if you are searching for accommodations in Manhattan. I’m not kidding, our kids had such a ball and they are ALREADY asking when we can go back to New York! We all had a great time exploring the city and coming back to a nice, clean, comfortable, new room made our stay even more enjoyable!!
